Actor Amitabh Bachchan remembers the death of his friend, late director Rakesh Sharma at the age of 81. In his blog, Amitabh on Saturday night called Rakesh a ‘very warm and kind man’ but said he ‘couldn’t hesitate to go’. to his funeral’. Rakesh directed films like Mr. Natwarlal, Yaaraana, Khoon Pasina and Do Aur Do Paanch.
Amitabh wrote, “But one crazy day… another colleague left us and me… Rakesh Sharma, first AD for Prakash Mehra in Zanjeer .. then independent director for other PM (Prakash Mehra, we often joked. He, as Prime Minister Desa) films. … and singularly – Hera Pheri, Khoon Pasina, Mr. Natwarlal, Yarana and others… and such great camaraderie on the sets and elsewhere, socially, at events and during Holi… ”
He continued, “One by one they all go away… But some like Rakesh leave a mark that is hard to erase or forget… His screenplay and direction, his writing and execution in moment and fun moments and in location during Natu and Yaran.. He is full on his worth. Faith… and he easily grants us the freedom to skip shoots on the odd day, just goof around and spend leisurely time. Uncontrollable laughter and cheerful company…”
Amitabh concluded, “A very warm and kind person, ready to face any inconvenience to the artistes who worked with him! No I won’t hesitate to go to his funeral… because I can’t. Bear with Jada Rakesh! You have inspired many of us with your innovative ideas for the story and the film. Made it famous, Rakesh, and you will always be remembered… (folded arms emoji).”
According to a Times of India report, Rakesh died in Mumbai on November 10 after a long battle with cancer. A prayer meeting will be held in Andheri on Sunday evening.
